Frequently Asked Questions about Secure Base Psychology

  • Is Dr. Melissa Goldberg Mintz accepting new patients?

At this time, Dr. Melissa is accepting a limited number of new patients. Call or e-mail to inquire about scheduling an appointment or setting up a complimentary consultation call.

  • What is your rate?

My rate is $225 for an hour long session. Payment is due after each session. I accept all major credit cards.

I also offer an income-adjusted, sliding scale rate for a limited number of clients. If you feel you would benefit from this, please inquire.

  • Do you accept insurance?

I am not currently an in-network provider with any insurance companies.

I am currently accepting patients via Lyra Health.

Depending on your specific insurance carrier and plan, I may be able to provide you with documentation that you can use to get a portion of this fee
    re-imbursed.

Consider contacting your insurance provider and asking these questions:

    • Do I have out-of-network benefits for mental health?

    • If so, what is your rate of reimbursement for 90837 (this is the code insurance carriers use for an hour-long session)?

    • Will I need a referral from an
in-network provider to see an out-of-network provider?

  • What is your cancellation policy?

In order to help achieve the best outcomes in therapy, it is important to attend appointments. If you are unable to keep your appointment, I ask for four hours notice. You are responsible for half of the fee if you cancel without this notice. If you are scheduled for an in-person session and you are unable to make it into the office, you are welcome to switch to a digital or telephone session, at any time.

  • What can I expect in the first session?

If you are bringing your child in for therapy, I will spend the first part of the session meeting with you to get some background information about your child. I typically meet with children alone starting in the second half of the first session, but can be flexible if there is some separation anxiety. If you are seeing me as an adult patient, we will spend the first session getting to know each other and establishing goals for your therapy.

  • What are your policies around children in divorcing families?

Separation and divorce can be hard on everyone in the family, and therapy can be hugely beneficial. As long as both parents have medical decision making capacity for the child, I require both parents to be present for part of the initial session and to consent to treatment.

  • Do you prescribe medication?

I do not prescribe medication, but can refer you to a number of wonderful psychiatrists.

  • Is it safe to bring my child in during the pandemic?

Only you can decide whether you feel comfortable bringing your child to an in-person visit. Tele-health is a great option for those families who are conflicted about in-person sessions. Additionally, it is current policy that I wear a mask throughout session with every client.
