Therapy

Secure Base Psychology, PLLC, offers a haven when life feels out of control and provides support for adults and children to heal from trauma as well as day-to-day stressors. We firmly believe that people best learn to manage emotional pain by connecting with others to whom they feel securely attached. This is easier said than done, especially after a stressful experience or when the source of distress stems from a close relationship. That is why our therapy often focuses on building the skills necessary to establish secure relationships and conquer symptoms of post-traumatic stress, anxiety, depression, OCD, and every-day worries about life.

We offer evidence-based therapeutic treatments for people of all ages. While therapy is tailored to the individual client, Dr. Goldberg Mintz is trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), the gold-standard treatment for traumatized children and adolescents, as well as Prolonged Exposure (PE), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), gold-standard treatment for traumatized adults. Dr. Goldberg Mintz also brings consideration of relationships to each and every treatment, ensuring therapy is not something you must “go at alone.”

Dr. Goldberg Mintz is also trained in evidence-based approaches for the treatment of depression, anxiety, OCD including Behavioral Activation (BA), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Exposure Therapy (ET), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

  • Individual therapy for children, with parent support

The focus of my work with children is in the treatment of post-traumatic stress, anxiety, depression, ocd, and adjustment issues, and in supporting caregivers in parenting traumatized, anxious, or depressed children. Generally speaking, the younger the child, the greater the parental involvement in treatment.

  • Individual therapy for adults

Maybe you experienced something traumatic as a child and it still weighs heavy. Or perhaps there’s not one harrowing memory that stands out, but a lifetime of painful experiences.

You’ve probably become pretty skilled at pushing down thoughts and feelings related to what happened to you. But, like pushing down a beachball in a pool of water, it takes a ton of energy do this. Energy that could be better invested in other areas of your life. And, like the beach ball, your distress probably comes flying up at inopportune moments.

Whether it’s an angry outburst in response to a work stressor, feeling like you need to shut down at home, or simply feeling down or stressed out, therapy can help reduce the instances of these intrusions in your life.

Sometimes, people have a hard time identifying a major trauma or stressor that occurred, but still have significant worries in life. This might look like social anxiety or feeling panicked. If this sounds familiar with you, therapy can help teach you skills to overcome the worries that hold you back and empower you to thrive.

  • Teletherapy and in-person options

Too busy to make it into the therapy office? Teletherapy is a wonderful option for those clients with packed schedules or inability to leave the home.

Sick of internet glitches and wanting to connect in-person? Dr. Goldberg Mintz sees the majority of her patients in her Rice Village office.

Dr. Goldberg Mintz also offers a hybrid model of in-person and tele therapy, to best address each client’s needs.
